Ghostery - see who is tracking you

The is an addon to your browser and presents a list (rather long sometimes) of trackers, pixel trackers, and anything else you can think of that tracks you. FYI it is free.

Ghostery (owned by evion sp?) has some credibility issues. Check out one of the others.

Why does it have a credibility issues? It does not protect you, it merely tells you who is tracking you and how they are doing it based on the page you go to. I could not find any bad press on the web. The application (addon) is benign and is just the first part of a larger process. Sheesh...

they resell 'anonymous' data to advertisers. Personally I don't see it as a bad thing, but many would.

I don't use it myself but i remember seeing there was an opt-out somewhere in the settings.

yeah, Being a UI guy these days I liked liked the UI. The DOM window as the page loads is neat. Ya know, when I had ffungi.com I gots the hits from military.gov cia.gov and vatican.ca then low and behold my page went missing but was reachable by my web host. All I did was publish a photo from Dinobry of the DC subway terminal and also a line from an Isley bros tune "fight the power". Ever since then I have been interested in the fallacy of internet privacy/security. I get a kick out of folks who were stunned about the NSA. I keep a honey pot just for them ;-)
