I'm glad you included the plan in the cost, because it is very much part of that cost. Although you neglected to mention that the plan went for 2 years. 12*2*30+200=US$920. Personally I would like an iPhone for US$200 with no asterisk, just as it was advertised by mister Jobs. I think that US$920 is way too much to pay for a phone that is locked down as much as the iPhone is. Want to use Google Voice, search for text within a webpage, switch the rotation of the display so that it works while on your side in bed, switch providers? All these things and a lot more, which should be easy, require you to hack your phone and in doing so lose other functionality and void your warranty. Worth US$920? Heck NO!bob wrote:I've had my iPhone for a week now, and I'm well satisfied. Not sure what you mean by overpriced? Compared to what? Other smart phones, or regular phones, or no phone? I paid $200 (plus the data plan-$30/month), and I believe I got value for my money.
Personally I'm hanging out for Nokia's N900 to get multitouch. Either by switching to capacitive touch or to use something like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bv3X5y-ajtc
At the moment I haven't seen any laptop phone which is worth the money being asked. N900 is close, but without multitouch, Nokia fails. Till something good comes out I'll be sticking to my Sony and ask to borrow an iphone when I need it, because luckily everybody else on the planet has one.
