Which brand of computer would you say is the best?
(brand-Sony, Apple, Packard Bell etc. Doesn't have to be the ones above)
Can anyone suggest a GOOD firewall/anti-virus app?

My answer for the second question is:
I like EZ Armor from Computer Associates.
here: http://www.my-etrust.com/
Have been using their EZ Antivirus for several years,
it's well priced and like the name easy to use.
EZ Armor is a relatively new product containing the Antivirus and a licensed version of the ZoneAlarm firewall,
but they have integrated them into the one application.
It costs $US49.95 for the first year and $US29- thereafter.
There are also several free applications available: AVG Antivirus and Kerio Personal Firewall are two good ones.
Both have pretty good reputations and many people find them quite adequate.

Kerio: http://www.kerio.com/kpf_home.html
Good luck!
