I would like to say this has anything to do with computers but it does not. I had a landlady back in the 70s that had her checking account pilfered by a proofer at a bank who was her tennant...This crap has been happening forever. Most iD theft is pretty simple.

A NYT article a while back talked about an ID theft ring that was busted . It was devastating to those it effected. The theft was low tech how they exploited what they ripped off was very much hi tech often cleaning people out in less than 24 hours.

I find most id theft is only possible by companies such as banks making non logical checks of your id, that are riddled with loopholes. Sometimes I'm just amazed at some of the systems in place and find myself all too often asking "OK so how the hell do they know I'm actually who I say I am, they never asked for anything with a picture" etc.
I answer rhetorical questions for my own enjoyment.

Someone hacked into my PC once, years ago (via trojan, I believe), and got my bank card number. They used it to charge about $350 bucks worth of internet purchases before I found out. The bank covered it, of course, since they weren't my purchases, but after that, I learned how to protect myself. I'm pretty damn confident that no one is going to easily hack into my system....especially when there are so many others out there with netbios ports wide open and shared drives to take advantage of. I won't be their first choice, anyway.
Does anybody really know what time it is?
