I was wondering what the impression was here of chrome. I don't use it really much but loaded the latest version a few days ago.

It seems much better than the first few but i've only really used google pages (mail/news).

How is it on standards?

I find it fast and use it along side Firefox. As for standards compliance, it uses webkit which is apparently one of the best for standards. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WebKit
I have a few things I don't like about it though.

Password manager - as it is currently implemented I and MANY others see this as a huge security hole. I strongly recommend you never save a password to it.

Extensions - Calling these extensions is like calling greasemonkey scripts, extensions. It's not even close to the same thing and Google are just pretending it is so that their browser looks as capable as Firefox. I have installed a few of the major ones on Chrome and they all suck so badly and are close to useless. I find myself using Chrome to access my gmail and then trying to use other sites but quickly switching back to Firefox as soon as I want to do something a little more advanced, such as blocking ads, logging into a webpage or downloading a video from youtube.

I appreciate your post... BUT...

I stopped using host files years ago when I stopped using the dysfunctional IE.

I just installed and tested this hoping you were right. It appears to have the same problems as the other Ad Block Chrome extension I used. It "hides" some ads, however it doesn't stop them from downloading in the first place (adBlock for Firefox stops the add at the request). It misses quite a lot and then there doesn't appear to be any easy way of adding your own filters to stop that stupid video ads from playing every time you open a particular page (adblock for Firefox allows you to right click and disable things right there). In fact, forget "easy", there doesn't seem to be any way (without perhaps editing the extension youself) to add your own custom filters.

According to the reviewers it does not work with the new version of Youtube. I installed it and could not find any download button.

Tell me how you avoid that. I can't even get online without using one.

I use the Host file to block ads in Mozilla browsers.....I never use IE.....it also works in Linux and BSD.
