DR Screensaver

Post by bob » 06/12/08, 4:34 pm

Anyone care to take a shot at producing a screensaver that runs an xml file from DR showing the top 100 headlines? This xml file will be updated every 15 - 30 minutes. And if possible it should be able to show the same mouseover text the DR site shows. We use js for that on DR. It needs to be constructed in such a way that no ones intellectual property rights are violated. In other words, we need to have rights in the final product. If you're interested, let me know and I'll set up a script to produce an xml file to practice on.... SOD, I'm thinking this could be a good project for your expertise, but I realize your time may be limited.....

Limited time is the phrase that pays. I've thought about
it, brings up some interesting challanges and ways to look at information. I worked 10.5 hours today on something that I considered "challenging" so as much as I would like to my pursuit has become my day job.

Have you investigated any of the applications available for this kind of service and found any that might suit you?

I looked for one, and none of the "screensaver kits" seems satisfactory.

Some don't let you click on the headline but only display it. And what I really want is for my top 100 headlines to scroll slowly up the screen, with live links, so the user can click on the link just like on DR.

Quick way would be to develop it in flash and then port it to a screen saver with one of those 'kits'.

How do I get rid of a screensaver regarding no Direct3D compatible devices? I updated drivers on my laptop and now I seem to be stuck with a screensaver that states that states could not find any compatible Direct3D devices. Any ideas how to get rid of this?

Download and install:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... 6652cd92a3

If you continue to have issues, you probably installed the wrong video drivers and need to find the correct ones. Other than that, the only thing I can tell you is to look at the DirectX diagnostic panel by going to Start>Run>dxdiag
