New Scientist Issue

I'd appreciate it if some of you would subscribe to the New Scientist feed, and click on a few links. Please keep a record of where the links take you. I've had reports of possible issues with their links, and I want to verify them before I remove the site from DR. If you are taken to a "virus/malware scan page" or anything else that seems incorrect, please make a note of the new link and post it here or let me know.

Probably a malware ad injection, somnething like this:

Using Chrome I subscribed and clicked on all the New Scientist links in the feed. All took me to a New Scientist page.

Tried again for all links in Firefox 3.5.6 with adblock disabled and again all seemed normal.

Using Ubuntu though, so that's not exactly standard and could be affecting it.

I received two emails from readers about it, and then I clicked on the relevant headline, and it did the dirty to me too. Only the first time I clicked it though.... And I hadn't made a note of the redirect link. But it was one of those "Scan Your Page" scams where they try to download malware and sell fake av software.

Weird... I dunno, it didn't happen for me. Send an email to them asking if they have been using such redirects.

I did send them an email. No response after 24 hours. If I get many more complaints, they're gone. I have to kick them off though--popular site with lots of interesting headlines.

No response, well that fucked. They deserve to be kicked then. Ummm.... can you find out from all the ppl who reported it what browser they are using and as much detail as possible, such as which links etc?

I could -- but what further action are you suggesting? I know the links--it was two separate ones.
