I got one of those new case cooling fans which screw into a PCI slot (dont go into the bus however, use their own power from a dc connector. I put one of my main fans in the front to blow air in so now i have 1 in the front and 2 in the back. There were two models, one for 7.99 at fry's and one for 12.99. I splurged and got the $13 model because it had a higher RPM and was guaranteed to last longer which was the sell for me. Its quite effective and is almost silent, something i cant say for the other fans and the humungo copper heat sink on the other athlon box! :)

I'd recommend one of these units for anyone who's OCing or just wants to free up a big case fan for use in the front to pump air in like myself.

Got one in front, two in back, a side fan, a pci fan, and of course the processor and video card fans on mine. I wanted a blowhole but I'm not too into case mods, which is what I would have to do...

The pci one isn't much good unless it's positioned perfectly; it depends a lot on your mobo if they are useful or not.

My experience is that more fans don't always = cooller internals. Most of that depends on what hardware is in there, how your software/bios is setup, case design, and how much you push your hardware for how long. Personally, I think the three best things to lower your internals are...

Get a aluminum case with tons of venting holes.

Get a decent processor fan with liquid silver on the chip.

Separate burners, DVD players, and HDD's as far apart as possible.

Already did that. I even have a heat sink on the northbridge chips. Why? because I can and because i had to take them off of the memory for other stuff. Luckily my new pci fan is the top pci slot, just below the AGP bus so much of the heat is taken from the card that way.

Would that be a left-hand or right-hand thread in the PCI slot? 8)

So what kind of temps we talking here?

Hehe, well, the insides of my case are never warm (though it could be this colorado mountain air... <IMG SRC="/phpBB/images/smiles/icon_razz.gif">). I have it planned nicely so everything is separated and the air has an unobstructed path to the exhausts in the back.

If you REALLY want to OC and defeat heat, get yourself one of those small office refrigerators, and use it as your box.

Ever heard of the Mini-Fridge? It runs freon through the case to cool it up to -50 degrees C. Wow. :)

yeah ive seen some killer rigs which use antifreeze... but i dont have that kinda money for special mounts and sinks and whatnot. the internal wires and drive bands are becoming a nightmare though... :'(
Ive tried to minimize thier airflow abstruction as much as possible but they always seem to clump together. any suggestions?

You might use a hole punch to cut little holes all over the bands.... Then the air'd get through--sort of like punching holes in the lid of a frog jar...

Just take everything out and scatter it on your table, then you'll be at room temperature at all times.

Mine helps heat my room about 10 degrees (I leave my window open all night and then it's 60, end of the day anywhere from 70-80. When I'm gone and computer is off, it gets to about 67.

Anybody ever sliced their IDE cables? Well, if you want to cool your system, get VERY long IDE cables, cut between each wire so that they separate, and then bind them in a round bunch with twist-ties. It looks like crap, but it takes up less room and it will lower your internal temp by at least 4 or 5 degrees C.
