USB Mini Keyboard

Got my hammer out, and now I'm gonna open the box

USB Mini Keyboard

Postby bob » 10/21/11, 7:19 am

Recent change to my configuration.... My damn huge ergomatic Logitech keyboard was just taking up all of my desk space. That sucker was 19 " long and 9" deep. It has all the bell and whistles -- special keys for volume, keys dedicated to email and browsing... BAH!

I just switched to a mini-keyboard: http://cgi.ebay.com/Gear-Head-KB1700U-U ... 0553181006

I paid $5 for it at a tag sale, and thought I'd just try it out. 11" long and 5 1/2" deep.

It seems to be serving my needs fairly well. No Numerical pad, but I seldom used that anyway (and you can do a numerical thing with the keys anyway, if you wish, using the third case). REALLY frees up a lot of desk space. The only thing is the keys are not very well cushioned so you get a lot of impact shock as you type quickly. Oh, and it looks dinky... Nevertheles, this is probably a permanent change. It's no different than a notebook keyboard. Though I'll be looking for something of better quality because of that impact shock thing. Or maybe I'll cut my nails shorter...)

BTW, here's what I had recently been using as a monitor, but I finally decided I needed to go back to a higher resolution, so I'm selling it (I took it off the dolly and had it on my desk while I was using it as a monitor):

This is the keyboard I've always used. One at home and two at two different work places. One of the few things I think Microsoft does really well: http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us ... /B2M-00012
I answer rhetorical questions for my own enjoyment.

I used a bunch of these for years few different brands both ps2 and usb. They are perfect for KVM enviroments and also great too if you run headless systems and need to plug in once in a while.

when i see them cheap i try to buy them but have not been seeing them for under 10 anywhere lately. then again i'm really happy with the Logitech g19 so i havn't been looking much.

1280 x 1024 is the best it would do on my machine. Here's CNet's page for it:

http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/ ... 27952.html

Cnet says\ both 1366 x 768 and 1600 x 1200 in different places--but I couldn't get the wider out of it.

Glad you don't want it, because I don't want to ship it!

not too bad. did you check to see of there was an aspect ratio setting to increase the res?

If craigslist fails look on Facebook if you use it. I found lots of local "flea market" type pages.

I'll check on that aspect ratio, but I think I went through all the menus.... One thing about a big monitor like this, you really have to turn down the brightness if you're going to sit anywhere near it, otherwise like staring into a 100 watt bulb.

It was made for public display--like to the occupants of a conference room. Not sure if they make personal monitors different in term of brightness, but this was the only one I ever had to turn down the brightness on.
