As far as I knew, you could fill the drive up with one file up to about 100 megs of its limit. Anyone want to correct me?

Just to be the devils advocate Red:
Why commit so much data to one drive? Not all data is the same although filed the same... I use 3 40 gig deskstars and look a data storage and retrival as task oriented.

SOD: this is accually going to the the Sixth Drive :-) I got 2 80gig 2 30gig and a 40gig.

the 30's and the 40 are running FAT32 and the 80's are on EXT2. EXT2 max file size is.. 4gig if i'm not mistaken and FAT32 is 2gig. I was wondering what NTFS4 and NTFS5 are also EXT3

FAT32 is 32 or 38. NTFS5 I have no clue but its at least 64. I havent heared of any hard limit for ext3 but im sure there is one somewhere.

Heh, go to Best Buy and you can build an Alienware computer with 4 SCSI 180 gig 10,000RPM stripped drives. :) Each HDD is $1,200 (or around there). *Imagines the power and gets scared.*

If it's not right, it's pretty close. Check pricing on some systems and compare.

If you have a Best Buy in your country you can check it out for yourself at the computer creation station.

OT, but since you mentioned pricewatch; have you ever ordered anything from there (from the dealers)? I want to try (keyword: try) and build a system but I get pretty skeptical looking at the vendor's sites, most are horrific at best.

I look there first... I never buy from the lowest 'bidder' if you can call them that. I use resellerratings.com to besure the people i'm buy'n from are not jerks.. but i think that site went under not too long ago. a couple of the places I buy from are mwave and compuplus both treated me right.

If your looking for ram though i would highly suggest mushkin or crucial though. sure it costs more but its great service and they don't sell junk.
If you buy from pricewatch all the time your going to get burned a bit every now and then.. usually its something silly though.

Ah, thanks for those recommendations.

I got 512mb of ram from Crucial before, and it was the most painless and quickest online order I've ever had.
