Okay, I think I'm going to buy an Apple computer pretty soon. First let me say this, I'm not looking to hear any "mac sucks" or trying to compare pc's and macs - keep it to yourself Nor will this be my ultimate primary system right off the bat.

I do like the new iMac's (iLamp, if you wanna call it that =P). I have my eyes set on the one with the superdrive, but I also saw a $500 rebate on a flat mac screen if I buy a powermac. I'd really like to go for the 19" screen rather than the new iMac's 15" but if I go that route, I'll end up spending more money on a full tower system (powermac). I like the space iMac gives your desktop, not to mention the design is eloquent (as with most mac stuff).

So what would you choose and why? Which do you prefer out of the two? Give me some feedback guys (and girls?).

P.S. - Were are all the Shell City cheerleaders at? I guess we'll have to settle with Gerry. Go Gerry Go! Go! Go!

I like the new Ibook you see how thin those are? If i had the cash in my pocket i'd get an Ibook with CDR/DVD, max the ram and processor and OS 10.1 (i think is the newest). I wish i could find one with a TVout or a small TV out adaptor.. even for PC laptop i would like to have one

My brother has been a devout Mac fanatic since day one, so I've heard plenty. I will say this though go with the biggest screen possible for the best experience.

John, I agree. However, the new iMac's only have 15" screens =( The only way to get a bigger screen is to buy a powermac and my own choice size of screen. But that just the eliminates the main reason I'd want to buy one (size of another tower and cost of powermac/screen).

Fry's didn't have the new iMac's for display yet, but the ACD flat screens are absolutely breathtaking. I browsed through the PC LCD screens before looking at the Apple ones - they seemed blurry compared to the mac screens, and by far much clearer. I swear, the 22" screen would make anyone orgasm when seeing it in person.

Not Mac bashing at all, but I talked for around 3 hours with a Mac rep at the Mall Of America Mac store and he really knew his stuff. What I finally found out though that besides the outside plastic, the processor, and the OS, they are made exactly like PC's. In fact, the Athlon chip out-clocks the Mac chip according to him. So, basically, from what I am hearing (unless I'm greatly mistaken) is that you spend more for a Mac basically because you get the Mac osX which also makes running pc programs ____. Why not buy a cool looking case, built an Athlon XP system, and put BeOS or something on there? Or even a Mac OS if you really wanted to? You'll save money and you'll have the satisfaction of a job well done. My opinion only folks.

Because:

I like the design, I already have two PC clutterbox towers

Haven't came across a flat screen that even compares to Apple's

I want a superdrive

I want to dive into something totally new altogether

Oh, and SOD - nice sarcasm

Seriously though, for me - I'm big on the concept of design. Designing is what I enjoy the most, and what I graduated college in - its simply a passion. That goes without saying that I will simply buy an Apple to have a pretty desktop and do nothing but connect to the internet with it, that's absurd.

I'm an information sponge, and I want to be feed

Here is something that most people don't know but most (if not all) flat screen monitors (yes, even apple) buy the same parts from the exact same manuafacturer. There are some obvious exceptions such as when you have a TV tuner card in there and such. Even Trinitrons though... all they do differently is turn the parts on their side and slightly modify the way the pixal is generated. What you pay for in a monitor is the size and plastic on the outside, not quality of image. Saying that a Mac has a better screen than most computers is really a matter of opinion based on the nice clear plastic that covers it. Sorry, but I'm not a real big Mac fan, but I do apriciate their tenacity of staying in business. Besides, the world wouldn't be perfect if there was just PC would it? Anyway, as far as graphix goes... well... you guys already know that there is no difference between a Mac and a PC. Now, if you could get a Mac for less then a PC and dual boot it with Mac OSX and something elese, AND have it all SCSI... well... then I would kill to get one.

Ohh, and yes, they look cool. Anyone who says otherwise should be shot for lack of apriciation for art. You should also check out the over-priced AlienWare computers at http://www.bestbuy.com. They are "the ultimate gaming machine". Similar to how Mac is "the ultimate for graphix". Heck, they both look cool though...

They "basically" contain the same parts - keyword being basically.

Let's apply your opinion to cars. All (comparative) cars are "basically" the same parts. I'm sure you do think a BMW sedan is much nicer than say - a Malibu, no? But its the same parts you say!

Anyhow, back on topic and like I've said at the beginning: This isn't about PC vs. Mac nor MacOSX vs. Linux vs. BeOS vs. Windows.

I'm going to buy an Apple regardless - I wanted to know the opinions on the questions I proposed because I knew I'd get alot the things in the above paragraph.

All monitors are not created equal having spent a certain amonut of time as a Tv eng. I can tell you this is simply not true to begin with its dot pitch or how distorted the pixel is saying that this is a small thing underestimates and under values its importance. Just ask Techtronics their monitors are astounding. I have a septre monitor good dot pitch Gateway distros a Mitsu~ monitor same size but very fuzzy. Further GW has had a majior prob with Flat screens Apple has not. The differences are to many to discuss. But one thing is for sure thats what want you to believe.
Do you have a tin eye Dark? Alot of men do. ie color blind to some extent it is a natural occurence in most men

Hi gang, I really like the new laptops with the type PowerPC 4?? processor (obviously I don't know much about macs) and all the great looking gear they make. And I believe they are in the majority in the design and multimedia and pro-music world.
What I'd like to find is one of those 'pc Power-Cube'
or whatever they're called. I heard they're not makin' em any more?, but I'd really love something that did'nt have a bloody noisy Fan. whirrrrrrr!!, grrr!
At 3am a fan sounds really loud when you're . . ;-J
I could'nt believe it when I heard that it was not selling, but there you go, I thought the silence and size would sell heaps?
I'd love to find a second hand one.

Dark Shadow,

this is not a defending post for apple. mere numbers.

the fella you were talking to was probably babbling on about one of the oh so great megahrtz myths. i hate that thing.

on the amd website (http://athlonxp.amd.com/benchmarks/digi ... nstone.jsp) it says it runs adobe photoshop 19% faster then a P4. The the figure Apple is spitting out is 74%.

I believe Apple have bullshitted with this number. Considering it dual-CPU the intestive stuff runs on the left CPU and the general stuff that you allways use runs on the right. An entire CPU devoted to crunching the hard numbers, no wonder it can run it so fast. and whats it come with? 256 (512?)megs of ram? DDR? well theres another booster for ya.

But this is what it was designed for. Apple havent lied, but twised the thruth.

hahaha, all computers are built the same! well they are all based on the princepals from 50 years ago. they might be a little bit more advanced (quantum mechanics has come along way!) but all built around the same ideas. and they will continue to be built the same untill quantum computers come into it all. by then hopefully we will be using carbon and itll cost about 100 bucks for the newest 11 gigahertz QC. wow, imagine all the raw processing power. damn, NVIDIA by then will hopefully be around the VR realm and we all have booths powered by our QC and new 'hard' light modelling technique so its fully interactive. the real-life version of the a holodeck. mind you, this will be around 2070 AD. ill be 84...damn...
