I've got these Power, Sleep and Wake keys on my keyboard, but I don't use that energy management stuff. Anyone know how I can reassign the keys, to say.... starting specific progs.... etc...

KEY CONTROL.......... Key Control maps extended keys on your keyboard (such as volume keys, media control keys, etc) to either one of many pre-defined actions or a user-defined action that you specify. This gives you much more versatility than most drivers that originally came with your keyboard. For example, instead of having your 'Internet' key open your web browser, you can have it run a specific program, switch tasks, or one of many other pre-defined actions. Many keys on many keyboards go unused because they either have an associated action that isn't frequently used, or the key doesn't work at all. Key Control solves both of these problems.....(demo).....GO THERE!

He he he.... I think this is the one I have, but I'm not sure as it doesn't give an exact url on the program.

Key Control won't detect, or simply wont let me remap, those 3 keys---any other ideas? Right now they're just dead on my keyboard...

Try these two:

I'm posting these quickly cause I feel a Windows Crash creeping up on me.

Ok now that my system is looking a little more stable...

I finally found a download for the program that I use, turns out that 'Key Control' isn't it. It's called ZDKeyMap and the download is here:

Download

I'm not sure if it will re-map the Power, Sleep and Wake keys that you asked for as I don't have them on my keyboard, but it is a VERY cool app and the download is only 58k.

Also John, you know those keys that can't be maped, hate to be a smart azz (I'm lying) but:

Not at all Gerry. The passage I wrote was from the 2K Help File. The particular feature you exhibit doesn't appear to be available in this MS ver. I think the keyword in my quote would be "standard keyboard" as it applies to the instructions. Bob's set-up would be considered non-standard, I would think,so some or all may not apply. Aside from that, what you show is a key swap(key for key) not quite the same as mapping for a short-cut, it would seem. I guess it depends on what you want the outcome to be. Nice to have viable options.

<"Define Standard">
Referring to the 3 keys in question. Those aren't found on a "Standard keyboard".(104-105 keys).
