I have a Rage Fury Pro 128 (32MB version) which I've had for almost 2 years now. I want to upgrade to a new video card, preferably a Radeon of some sort. I don't have a lot of money- my maximum price would be about 85-100 dollars.
What would you suggest?

If your running Linux, better check the XFree86 compat list of the newest server.

hmmm.... I'm looking at the Radeon 7200, or the 7500 if its not too much more money. Either way the're both a lot faster and more powerful than the one I have :)

According to the Mandrake website, there is support for the 7200 but not the 7500 right now. But then again, they support other Radeon models and even the 8500s so it could probably just use another driver.

My next question here is, the 7500 has DDR memory while the 7200 doesnt. Would it make any real noticable difference, compared to a price difference of about 30 dollars (on the ATI website at least)?

Depends on what you are looking for in a vid card?

I dont know all I know is that I dont need any of the extra DV or TiVo or DVD playback features, only the graphics capabilities themselves.

WOW a real job! Where do I apply?
Andrew it could be the DDR that is the issue.
BTW expect only a modest 15% diff

I got the 7500 @ fry's for 129 and there is a 30 dollar mail-in rebate. Windows bitched about it, caused some disk-level init issues and froze a lot but i finally managed to get rid of the old rage driver which was a 'ghost device' still. Now some programs hang and Return to Castle Wolfenstien craps out when you get killed... The bugs are slowly going away though.

I know. I've got to spray for some compatibility issues I've seen crawling around here, lately. 8)

BUG BOMB!

I installed the latest 7500 drivers, and that *almost* worked. when i turned on the computer today, everything seems perfectly fine: no freezing, no insanely slow disk reading, no crap-outs (so far).

How come no one is suggesting a Georce 3? Nearly as good as a Geforce 4, and a WHOLE lot cheaper. Just check out Ebay. I've been very very pleased with mine.

You can get a geforce 3 for under $100 on ebay. I got mine off ebay, but that was before Geforce 4 so they were more expensive (I think i payed $150) but now they are really cheap. Go get one! Go! Now! Hurry! You won't regret it.

i'm getting between 110 and 160 fps in quake with full graphics, so i'm more than happy. plus i have an O/C app for Radeon cards too which i'll try in a week or 2 after i'm sure everything is working as-is (and i've gotten my rebate check back;))
