If your on a dial-up as I am and would like access to some of the latest Linux distros Here
I ordered Redhat 7.2 and Slackware 7.1, Monday evening and received both in the mail today (12/28). Made a WinImage off the RH cd and it's installing now. Good service at a good price.

John, have you read about RedHat's position on those kind of services lately? It's a good debate IMO.

OT, but does anyone have Mandrake 8.0? I bought the standard boxed set, but unfortunetly left CD #1 under a big candle and forgot to blow it out before I went to bed. DOH!

no problem, Vipe. just get yourself an ice scraper or a rasp, and scrape the wax off. Better yet, heat the cd and melt the wax off.

Fingernail polish remover or acetone works wonders also.

So, vipe what's a link to this Red Hat bone of contention. BTW, install finished without a hitch. Now gotta make a bootdisk for Slack.

Opps, sorry for not being clear about what happened to the CD. The candle melted all the way down to the metal wicker holder base and the heat from it melted the inner part of the CD. =/

John, try: http://www.newsforge.com/article.pl?sid=01/12/19/0335205&mode=thread

put it in a flat frying pan, put a couple bricks on top of it, and turn on the heat--that'll flatten it out again.

Good article Vipe...I had orginally installed an ISO of Redhat someone had downloaded from the net and had many problems. Having an i686 1gig Athlon it seemed unstable maybe it was just me. So I went out and purchased "Redhat Linux 7.2 the Complete Reference" guess what? That CD set was very stable and has ran ever since. The point is knowing what everyone knows about captialism your NOT going to give away your "A" product for free. BTW did you read about Thomas Crapper and related links? I gotta go have breakfast.

LOL Bob - I hope you aren't serious. There is no inconcievable way to fix it, I'm afraid.

I still have Red Hat 7.0 but I'm a dummy as to upgrading the kernel (the USR 1560A modem didnt work with it's default 2.2 kernel last time I tried).

One of the reasons I try(!) to learn Linux - is that it helps me out with my *nix website/hosting. As a windows-only user, you are pretty much just told/learn the commands/structures of your *nix hosting, but after you begin in Linux, you see how it works & experience it - it all makes complete sense in the end.

Where is your site, Vipe? It's not indicated on the Members' List.

As I read the article, it's more of a copyright thing than a re-distibutable cd. The oneI have clearly states on the label the name "Discount Linux CD's". it does not purport to be made by RH. BTW this is a very stable version. Only prob I had during install was configuring my video(what's new). These are guaranteed cd's at a more than fair price that give you the alternative to DL off RH site or buying the box set, with extranneous apps included.
