Stellarium

Post by Don_U » 02/14/11, 4:20 am

This software is the bomb
Stellarium is a free open source planetarium for your computer. It shows a realistic sky in 3D, just like what you see with the naked eye, binoculars or a telescope.
It is being used in planetarium projectors. Just set your coordinates and go.

For Mac Windows and Linux...native install for Ubuntu Linux flavor

Gerry this has the capacity for 210 million known mapped stars, also nebula's, constellations, and galaxies. with the option of looking back from different planets for perspective. The zoom by virtue of your mouse wheel
can take you into space as well. Does your phone do that?

Two points....
1. I don't have smart phone, so the word "your" isn't really appropriate.
2. I've loved Stellarium ever since I first used it about 2 years ago.
