I used to have HDKP (Hard Drive Killer Pro) ready to load and destroy my file system should I need to destroy company data quickly. However, I came up with a far more effective solution.
1 gram of Compound #4 (spread thin) on each hard drive wired to an old pager and a model rocket fuse. It is pretty heat tolerent so no worries there (unless there was a fire inside my computer and then it is totally ruined anyway). Just got to open the box about once a month and make sure the stuff isn't sweating.
FYI, if you copy me... do yourself a favor and don't have the pager actually hooked up to service. Old pagenet pagers run at 929.2875 Mhz. If you don't know what I'm talking about, don't try it. It would suck to burn your drives by accident.
Compound #4 burns the stabalizer for a bit after the detonation, so keep that in mind when choosing a case... and a location for the box. If the stuff isn't spread thin on the drives, you are likely to blast off a chunk of the case in a random direction with flaming wax attached. Not good if you don't plan to burn your place to the ground.
Also, you will need to have a warning on your box that there are live explosives inside (insert disclaimer here about fingers, body parts, death, etc...) and this is also quite illegal if you live in an appartment vs a house. Finally, this is all assuming you have a license to purchase and handle or again... it is quite illegal.
If you don't have a license to purchase or handle, the poor man's version includes shotgun shells and tight coils of fuse wire but since young kids might be viewing this forum, I'll leave it to your imagination.
It works with Linux and Mac too.

Just an FYI, Compund #4 and pretty much all conventional small explosives are 100% bio-degradeable and/or biological in nature including gun powder. Plus, blowing it up conserves all those extra CPU cycles and disk writes that consume extra power.
Although to be fair, if your case is made out of plastic, it can be worse for the enviroment having to throw that out.
