Windows XP STEALS 20% of YOUR BANDWIDTH?

Post by bob » 06/01/06, 1:43 pm

Can this be true?

Sadly - this only works for XP Pro. You cannot access the gpedit screen with XP home

QoS RSVP is a Service, so it can be disabled via the Services console under Administrative Tools\Services.

However, it's set to Manual, and is only enabled when a program calls on it; it should almost never be running under normal circumstances anyway.

This will clear any other questions up:

That is not true. It is a common myth. 20% bandwidth can be used by software written to utilize it and most desktop software is not written to utilize it.

Brant is right. Still, I stopped using XP Pro in early January because the networking became more and more unreliable until it rarely worked at all. I've been using Linux and now BSD as well and have had no problems.

Charter around here limits connections and throttles bandwidth it started about a year ago. Used to be a bit faster too!

It's definitely bullshit. The QoS thing used to be known as a tweak, but has long since been proven not to do anything at all.

I never finished the last cert test. I will eventually. I just got too burnt out. I mean, I stayed at the school about 10 - 12 hours a day and crammed all that crap in, passed 3 cert tests, then just couldn't study anymore. :? I only have 70-284 (Exchange) left to go. But hey, I just got a new job making about $14K more than my previous job! WOOOHOOOO!!! :D I start Monday. It's contract to salary, but I'm confident that he'll hire me permanently and then I get the benefits and everything. In the meantime, I'll be making some serious cash with no taxes taken out for 90 days. I plan to return to my studying soon and pass the last exam so I'll be a real MCSA. I have to make some money first. Hell, I don't even have the money to take the exam, at the moment. (0_o)

Congrats on the new job. Those cert tests don't come cheap! Do yourself a favor and take that last test.

Hope the winter isn't to brutal up there. We have
had a ton of lake effect snow the last two days. It's like a
local blizzard. I commute to Ann Arbor and no snow it's like it's not even the same state.

Thanks! Yeah, I'll pass that last test soon. I'm so close, it would be just stupid not to. I just got to a point where I'd read the same sentences over and over and nothing was sinking in. :? Once I start working again, I'll start taking my practice exams again and get ready to go pass the test. Implementing and Managing Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 is a difficult course. I'm having more trouble with this one course than any of the others. I breezed through all of those. But then, the burnout factor could have a lot to do with that, I suppose.

Winter is brutal as hell right now. We just got dumped on. Check it out.
