More memory...

Post by bob » 12/21/11, 12:17 am

Just bought another 8 gigs of ram: Vengeance® — 8GB Dual Channel DDR3 Memory Kit (CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9):

http://www.corsair.com/vengeance-8gb-du ... 600c9.html

That'll max out my slots.... bringing me up to 16 gigs, though the motherboard supports 32 gigs (does Win 7, 64 bit?). I thought the price was exceptional for premium mem. Still looking for a big hard drive. I've heard prices are skyrocketing because of the flood in Thailand.

Found the following:

16 GB is\ supported by Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit

Boy these numbers suck... Huge differences:

OK, I guess I'll be maxed out on memory too....

yeah that is the major drawback to windows.

If you just had to buy it and get everything that would be fine but they got that tiered thing that pisses me off.

I'm running 6gb and have only had one issue with running out of memory. Was playing SW:TOR beta, had star trek online open and was rendering a video with After Effects along with Photoshop open and my browsers.

we'll see how much more efficacious 16 gigs is over 8. I don't expect to see much difference, since, as far as my little widget tells me, I haven't used more than 20 or so percent of the 8 gigs since I first booted the machine. I'm thinking of the future though. I expect this new machine to last a while. See you in 10 years... (too optimistic, eh? Well, as I recently revealed, I was still using as my main machine a P4 from 2003 or thereabouts...)

Well... at this point I'm thinking 16 gigs of memory is pretty much a waste for what I do on the machine---I've not gotten above 4 gigs in use yet, and the machine came with 8, so I needn't have upgraded. Still, thinking about the future, might find some huge mem hog prog I have to run next year or 4 years down the line.

So, anyone want to buy 8 gigs of Corsair Vengence DDR 3 -- tell you what, I'll sell it to you at 1990 prices!!!!

That'll be $400,000 at $50/mb
