Which Batch Renamer?

Postby RedDog » 11/10/11, 8:45 pm

I just got given 20 Gigs of files that need sorting. Every folder had a differently formatted name so that 1998 came before 2007 in the list. I sorted that in five minutes but when I look at the files in the folders it looks like every user has used a different format for the file names. This is a one off job so being a bit tight I don't want to buy anything, so can anyone suggest a batch renamer? Damned annoying that the software for my Cannon camera does exactly what I want and how I want but it only works on image files.

I may be barking and I am quite mad but fortunately this dog rarely bites

Not knowing any real details....

You could write a simple batch file to do it, or whatever shell language you like best. I usually use php do do such things unless I am going to be giving it to a client or will be taking up a lot of resources.
