data and information

Postby Don_U » 01/04/11, 7:05 pm

Is there a difference? The web is so full of data points that it is hard to apply scope to convey useful information.

I got to thinking about a recent conversation I had with John etal.

Raw data is disruptive. In the short term this can move mountains 'wake ppl up' kinda thing but it's effectiveness
can degrade quickly. Similar salvos may not have the same shock factor even though the data is of the same value as the first dissemination.

If Wikileaks was going to do anyone a service they would have assembled that raw data to paint a concurrent image of events in time. To correlate data into information.

They made it possible for others to do this.

Same thing I was going to say. Just about every night on the evening news I'm seeing a story credited to a Wikileaks release. Usually about some fucked up shit my government was doing.
I answer rhetorical questions for my own enjoyment.
