Netflix....

Damn netflix is great. Been watching Japanese gangster and horror movies. This shit is fabulous. If you're interested, I'll start a list. There are about a million movies to download (just hook an s-vid cable between your computer and television, or just watch them on your laptop), and you can get them by cd too.

...or use a modern game system. Them make dedicated devices too. I've heard some blu-ray players have it built-in as an extra feature.

Or better yet, use a HDMI cable. Then install XMBC ( http://xbmc.org/ ) for playing all your other media and get yourself one of those bluetooth remotes made for a PC and you'll have one rockin setup.

The console option, as mentioned, works almost as well. Just not as flexible.

Or if you want to keep it simple, use an s-vid cable.....

We don't have an hd tv anyway, Gerry. And many of the movies I'm watching won't lend themselves to that. Still Quite satisfied with what we have. (Hell, I had to be pulled kicking and screaming from black and white tv. Remember that?)

Very interesting question although perhaps not asked in the right way. I think what you are wanting to know is would the final filesize of a black and white movie be smaller than that of a colour movie? I mean it would cost less to store the information of a black and white movie without any compression provided there was an appropriate file type for black and white movies, so compression on this already much smaller file would probably be far less than the compression on a file that has so much more data to work with.

However I don't know, nor could I find the answer to the alternate question about if you could have a much smaller file size for black and white movies. I imagine you could if there was a file format out there that supported movies that were sure to have no colour, but I don't know if one exists and is in common use.

Great question though. I'll update if I ever find an answer.
