Nils Lofgren -Acoustic Live

Recorded at Wolftrap in MD. Shit this is the best CD I have bought in years. Four acoustic boxes one a twelve string. WOW

Background: Nils is one of those players that is the backbone of any effort but never got the props. he has played with the likes Bruce Springsteen, Ry Cooder, Neil Young and others. He one of players that gives you a piece of his soul on every recording.Very cool.

Outrageous - Paul Simon / Danny Elfman producer

"It's outrageous the food they try to serve in the public school.
Outrageous the way they talk to you like some kind of clinical fool.
It's a blessing to rest my head in the circle of your love.
It's outrageous, I can't stop thinking about the things I'm thinking of."

Man in the moon - Nils Lofgren

just two lonely kids in school
right before geometry
my friend Jimmy lost his cool
and he pulled a gun on me
him and wanda used to date
but that was over months ago
thou shes been seen with me of late
where just a couple friends moving slow
now all of this I try to explain
but Jimmy shook with way to much pain
then he shot himself instead
no one knows yet if he's dead

I wanna talk to the man in the moon
maybe he has an extra room
this place i hell, wanna cut out soon
I wanna live with the man in the moon

I've seen this kinda thing on tv
but all of them were fat and 43
hey I'm only 14 years old
what kind of world am I living in
if I could live with the man in the moon
just be a kid from july til' june

to hell with wanda
to hell with this
had to bury a friend before my first kiss
I wanna life with some peace in it soon
get me a rocket to the man in the moon
I wanna live with the man in the moon

A friend gave a CD with this tune on it. Reminded me of doing 90 to +100mph on I-80 in Nevada when I used to drive truck. At the time I had a V-12 Pete. From just outside Salt Lake City to Sparks Nv. Those times seem like a photograph.

This Cowboy Song - Sting

"We rode all night across an endless desert
We had no moon to light our way
And though a million stars were slowly turning
We lacked the consciences to pray

Our horses running like a devil chase us
Their feet, they hardly touched the ground
Yes, I'm familiar with a grey wolf howling
But I'm certain I never heard that sound
Devil to pay on judgement day
Would Jesus strike me down if I should pray?
This cowboy song is all I know
To bring me back into your arms
Your distant sun, your shining light
You'll be my dog-star shining tonight

I've been the lowest of the low on the planet
I've been a sinner all my days
When I was living with my hand on the trigger
I had no sense to change my ways
The preacher asked if I'd embrace the resurrection
To suck the poison from my life
Just like an existential cowboy villain
His words were balanced on my knife
Devil to pay, on judgement day
Would Jesus strike me down if I should pray?

This cowboy song is all I know
To bring me back into your arms
Your distant sun, your shining light
You'll be my dog-star shining tonight

Every night
Every night
All my distances afar

This cowboy song, is all I know
To bring me back into your arms
This cowboy song, this cowboy life
I'll be your dog-star shining tonight

Dog-star..."

New Frontier
Steely Dan/Donald fagen

Yes we're gonna have a wingding
A summer smoker underground
It's just a dugout that my dad built
In case the reds decide to push the button down
We've got provisions and lots of beer
The key word is survival on the new frontier

Introduce me to that big blonde
She's got a touch of Tuesday Weld
She's wearing Ambush and a French twist
She's got us wild and she can tell
She loves to limbo, that much is clear
She's got the right dynamics for the new frontier

Well I can't wait 'til I move to the city
'Til I finally make up my mind
To learn design and study overseas

Have you got a steady boyfriend
Cause honey I've been watching you
I hear you're mad about Brubeck
I like your eyes, I like him too
He's an artist, a pioneer
We've got to have some music on the new frontier

Well I can't wait 'til I move to the city
'Til I finally make up my mind
To learn design and study overseas
Let's pretend that it's the real thing
And stay together all night long
And when I really get to know you
We'll open up the doors and climb into the dawn
Confess your passion your secret fear
Prepare to meet the challenge of the new frontier

Whatever happened to Marc Cohen? A quiet almost reclusive artist he penned "Walking In Memphis"
and "Already Home" a favorite of mine.

His music is articulate and touching. Not mearly songs but stories about his life and times. He is real, only the names have changed to protect the memories.

A set aired 09/14/07 on NPR in support of a new album:

John was 'Minnie' first released on 78rpm? First time I heard him sing that was in the movie Blues Brothers.
I listen to alot of older Jazz and blues and folk.

Mary Chapin Carpenter is also a favorite.

This was sung by Betty Buckly, such a beautiful voice. The arrangement was strong and touching.

Come On Come On
(Mary Chapin Carpenter)

Some people remember the first time
Some can't forget the last
Some just select what they want to from the past
It's a song that you danced to in high school
It's a moon you tried to bring down
On a four-in-the-morning drive through the streets of town

Come on come on, it's getting late now
Come on come on, take my hand
Come on come on, you just have to whisper
Come on come on, I will understand

It's a photograph taken in Paris, at the end of the honeymoon
In 1948, late in the month of June
Your parents smile for the camera in sienna shades of light
Now you're older than they were then that summer night

Come on come on, it's getting late now
Come on come on, take my hand
Come on come on, you just have to whisper
Come on come on, I will understand

It's a need you never get used to, so fierce and so confused
It's a loss you never get over the first time you lose

And tonight I am thinking of someone, seventeen years ago
We rode in his daddy's car down the river road

Come on come on, it's getting late now
Come on come on, take my hand
Come on come on, you just have to whisper
Come on come on, I will understand
Come on come on, it's getting late now
Come on come on, take my hand
Come on come on, you just have to whisper
Come on come on, I will understand
Come on come on
