I, like others, am mostly using Linux (and Linux based mobile OSes) these days. i have Windows 7 on this laptop, but I just "use" it. I put in all my hacks via XSetup in 30 min, and that was it. Are there any plans to make DR more linux and/or mobile hack centric? This time next decade, the vast maj...

Me too :'(... I haven't posted here in a long time, but I've been a forum member since 12/2001 apparently (doesn't seem that long!) As long as something stays, that's good.

Preload speeds up Linux app executions

Here's something useful that could go into an upcoming Daily Update: URL: http://www.techthrob.com/tech/preload.php [quote] Preload is a Linux daemon that stores commonly-used libraries and binaries in memory to speed up access times; similar to Windows Vista's SuperFetch function. This article look...

I have 64 bit gusty on here and it's pretty cool. The only issues I had were that flash didn't work until I uninstalled the flash player package, manually deleted the libflashplayer file from ~/.mozilla/plugins, and reinstalled it. Now, all I need to do is fix my problem with Enigmail...

This makes sense. You have to be careful how you do this kind of thing, and not over do it. If you do, your great suggestion simply becomes yet another part of the white noise in the prospect's head. I would also imagine that this worked better on a per-person basis years ago, when everyone and thei...

Swiftfox

Swiftfox is identical to the official Firefox, except that the binaries are optimized for various AMD and Intel CPUs. You could complie w/ GCC optimizations yourself, or you can just do it the easy way. I installed it myself through Automatix on Ubuntu. URL: http://getswiftfox.com/ It will use all y...

Still in beta after like 5 years- I love it! ;). Actually it's more like 7 or 8 years if you count the original project this one came out of. Still, it looks a lot better than the last time I used it, 2 or 3 years ago. It almost makes me want to start using Windows again... Just kidding! Blackbox or...

That is cool. It even utilizes transparencies! I wish I had an excuse for that... Wait. Maybe I do. I'm part of an affiliate program that could benefit from a demonstrative interactive chart, at least a dynamically generated table. I'm not sure if I could use that, but it would be really cool in the...

Any good options for Linux? I use Ubuntu. Having [descriptive filename.mp3] show up as unknown-unknown in Rythm Box is really annoying. Amarok takes care of this, but there's something wrong with it, and it has the tendency to make the keyboard and mouse not respond after a while.

eGold Indicted by Feds

Hey all. It's been a while- I've had a really busy Spring semester and haven't really had time to play with anything technical. Don't want to screw w/ the laptop too much lest it not be working when I have to write some deadly paper! 8-) Anyway, here's a post about eGold, if you don't already know t...

Can TBird's "delete-->mark next as read" be dis

Hi, I use Mozilla Thunderbird for my e-mail as many of you doubtlessly do. Is there a way to disable the functionality where you delete one message, then it automatically displays the next message in the list, marking it as read? The problem with this is that some messages I want to mark as unread f...
